DESCRIPTION
OF THE COURSE : MATH 126 Basic Mathematics II
Frequency: Spring Terms / Credit: (3-2)4
Content: Analytic Geometry in R2 , R3. Functions of
one variable: Limit, continuity and differentiation. Chain rule, implicit
differentiation. Differential calculus, optimization. The definite
integral. The indefinite integral. Logarithmic and exponential functions.
Techniques of integration: Integration by substitution, integration by
parts, by partial fractions.
GENERAL
INFORMATION: This is a 4-credit course. Analytic geometryy, the limit,
continuity, derivative, and their applications are studied. The course
consists of three lectures and two recitations per week. Each student
must be enrolled in the lecture and in exactly one of the recitation
sections.
EXAMS: Along
the semester two midterm exams, each covering approximately %40 of the
course material, will be given. The final exam covers all the material.
The quizzes will be given during the recitation classes.
MAKE-UP:
There will be no make-up quizzes given, and any missed
quizzes will be given a grade of 0, according to the grading policy
stated above. Only in truly unusual circumstances approved by an official
record, it is at the discretion of the coordinator to consider the
removal of the 0 grade for any missed exam and how/when/if this could be
done.
GRADING:
The course grade will be determined by two midterm exams,
eight quizzes, and a final exam. There will be a review at the lecture
before each exam. The first midterm exam score will contribute 20%, the
second 25%, the final exam 40%, and (highest 6 of 8) quiz scores and
attendance 15%. All grades out of 100 will correspond to the following
scale:
FF<38£FD<50£DD<60£DC<70£CC<75£CB<80£BB<85£BA<90£AA£100.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance is crucial for doing well in the course. It is
strongly recommended that you do not miss any class.
