Abstract: Cryptography is an interdisciplinary field with roots in mathematics and most applications in computer science and information technology. In this talk, I will discuss some of the most important applications of cryptography in computer science, including the authentication protocols for local area networks, protocols for securing the infrastructure of and the communications on the Internet, and mechanisms to protect computers from malicious code (viruses, Trojan horses, etc.)
