Abstract: GDS equations have been derived by Babaoglu and Erbay while modelling propogation of waves in an elastic media using asymptotic techniques. The aim of this talk is to summarize some of the results obtained jointly with Babaoglu and Erbay on global existence vs. blow-up of solutions of GDS equations in the purely elliptic case. As it is the case for the non-linear Schrödinger equation, we will try to show the beautiful interplay between conserved quantities on one side and time-asymptotic behaviour of solutions on the other side.
