Departmental Printer Setup for win XP & win 2000

             This document describes steps required for taking  printout from your computer via our departmental network printers “Hp4250” and “Hp4350”.  For this, one should follow the following steps :

  IMPORTANT: Note that this document has been written for installing the printer on the server hdemir. But you can every replace every “hdemir” phrase with “ikeda” and every “hp4250” phrase  with “hp4350” if you wish to install the printer on the server ikeda.

   Step 1 :   The other configuration needed is that you have to add some registry configuration to you windows.
If you used to be connected to printers you can skip this step.
Press start menu then run. From there, type;
   \\tore\Utilities\samba_windows
And in the coming screen;

·  if your operation system is windows xp,     then double click on WinXP_PlainPassword.reg

·  if your operation system is windows 2000, then double click on Win2000_PlainPassword.reg


to apply the configuration, restart your computer.

   Step 2 :  

·  Log on to printer by either browsing network neighbourhood and double clicking on hdemir server or typing \\hdemir in the run tab from start menu (if you do not have a hdemir printer account or you experience log-in problems please inform us)

 

 

·  After logging in the printer server open Printers and Faxes located in the start menu.
Right click anywhere on the window you just opened and choose add printer and press next.
In the following screen, choose local printer as shown in the figure and press next

 



Choose create a new port and then local port

 



Type \\hdemir\hp4250 or  \\ikeda\hp4350  in the box appeared. If a message appears saying the port already exits, then go back and choose the existing port in the use the following port

When asked, choose “Have Disk” in the following screen, as shown in the figure.

Choose the proper printer and click next.

 

 

Rename your printer as HP LaserJet 4250 PS on hdemir or HP LaserJet 4350 PCL6 on ikeda and click next. Also you can configure your default printer from this screen.

 

 

Now just click next and then click finish on the following screens.

 

Nice work! Your printer installation is now complete.

NOTE1: You have to log in the printer everytime you want to print a document. As long as the computer is open you are logged in and
      you may print any type of document you wish, but when you restart your computer, you will need to log in again.

NOTE2: You can have problems in printing documents in hundreds of pages or (tens of pages for printing word documents) due to memory restrictions
      of the print server. You might need grouping your document into seperate parts or giving seperate printing commands for parts of the document

NOTE3: For the printer ikeda, type ikeda instead of hdemir and hp4350 instead of hp4250  everywhere in this document.
