CONSTRUCTION OF SURFACE BUNDLES WITH NONZERO SIGNATURE

In this thesis, the geography problem of surface bundles with non-zero signature is considered. After the primary examples of surface bundles with non-zero signature given by Atiyah and, independently, Kodaira, different construction techniques have been developed by several mathematicians. In the thesis, two different construction methods based on the joint work `Surface bundles: some interesting examples' of Bryan, Donagi and Stipsicz are given. The one uses the subtraction process between Lefschetz fibrations and the other uses mainly the theory of branched covers. At the end, given an infinite family of surface bundles with non-zero signature, a method, taken from the above work, to get a conclusion on the minimal base genus problem is given.

Bu tezde, işareti sıfırdan farklı yüzey demetlerinin inşası ile ilgili coğrafya problemi ele alınmıştır. Atiyah ve Kodaira 'nın birbirlerinden bağımsız olarak verdikleri işareti sıfırdan farklı ilk yüzey demetleri örneklerinden sonra, değişik inşa teknikleri bir takım matematikçiler tarafından geliştirildi. Tezde Bryan, Donagi ve Stipsicz 'in beraber yaptıkları `Yüzey demetleri: bazı ilginç örnekler' adlı çalışma baz alınarak iki farklı inşa methodu verilmektedir. Bunlardan birisi Lefschetz lifleri arasındaki çıkarma işlemini, diğeri temel olarak dallanmış örtüler teorisini kullanmaktadır. En sonda, işareti sıfırdan farklı sonsuz bir yüzey demetleri ailesi verildiğinde minimal baz uzayı cinsi problemi ile ilgili sonuç elde etmeye yarayan yukarıdaki çalışmadan alınmış bir yöntem verilmektedir.
