In this thesis, we present the work of R. Fintushel and R. Stern on the geography problem of minimal simply connected symplectic 4-manifolds. Specifically, given a collection of genera, minimal simply connected symplectic 4-manifolds with canonical class represented as a disjoint union of symplectic surfaces of the corresponding genera are constructed.
